The Renewal Center Community Development Corporation is a non-profit organization established to provide job-readiness training and economic development services to under-served communities in the Memphis area.
Based in Whitehaven, the Renewal Center offers public speaking training, graphic design skills, and business etiquette training, as well as health/wellness, and outreach support to citizens in the local community.
About the Founders
Elizabeth Nichols
Elizabeth Nichols has always had a passion for life and for others that is contagious. A graduate of Lemoyne-Owen College, Elizabeth worked for over 25 years in the fashion industry, while co-owning a clothing boutique, coordinating fashion events, and traveling throughout Europe.
She also serves as a Lead Pastor at Redeemed Church (www.redeemedmemphis.com), and a co-founder of the Renewal Center, a non-profit organization developed to provide professional skills training to under-served students in the Memphis community.
Elizabeth continues today as a business owner (www.elizabethnicholsjewelry.com), and conducts interactive business and personal branding seminars at the University of Memphis and throughout the city. Elizabeth is an Image Consultant certified by the Fashion Academy of Memphis and a Certified Professional Coach with Fowler International Academy of Professional Coaching.
Joel Nichols
Joel Nichols is a visionary leader, creative thinker, and co-founder of the Renewal Center, a non-profit organization that provides professional skills and college preparatory training to under-served students in the Memphis community.
A life-long Memphian, Joel began his professional career writing and producing commercial spots in the promotions department of WMC-TV5. He went on to work in advertising, marketing, & PR at a local advertising agency and with the World Basketball League’s Memphis Rockers. In 1991, Joel went to work for global medical device manufacturer Smith & Nephew, Inc., where he served in various marketing, communications, and advertising capacities in over 20-years with the company.
Joel holds a BA in Advertising and Communications from the University of Memphis, and an MBA from Union University. He is currently the owner of LifeSpeak, Inc., (www.lifespeakonline.com) which provides marketing consultation and public speaking development services to anyone interested in enhancing their communication skills. He also serves as a Marketing and Management Instructor (adjunct) at the University of Memphis and as Lead Pastor at Redeemed Church (www.redeemedmemphis.com) in Memphis.
